2012 Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines
The beautiful Mactan, Cebu hosted this year's Ironman 70.3 Philippines. The triathletes swam 1.9kms along the beautiful coastline of Shangri-La, hammered their bikes in 4 cities of the island of Cebu covering 90 kms, and ran 21 kms under the mighty sun.
Australian Pete Jacobs scored a 3-peat in 4 hours, 7 minutes, and 38 seconds. He was trailed by Cameron Brown of New Zealand, and Mathieu O'Halloran of Canada. Swiss Caroline Steffen is the female champ in 4 hours, 20 minutes, and 48 seconds. Bree Wee of USA and Belinda Granger of Australia finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
August Benedicto and Monica Torres are top male and female Filipino triathletes, finishing 4:27:39 and 4:48:40, respectively.
I was blessed to be part of the accredited media to cover the event. The atmosphere was festive, as the crowd cheered the triathletes along the route.
