1st Marathon Dilemma: Subic Int'l or QC Int'l?
As I browse through my favorite sites, I chanced on the article of Bill Velasco in PhilStar.com.
I learned that the 2nd Subic International Marathon will be sponsored by Smart Communications, Inc. (aptly calling the event Smart SIM, galing!), and that the marathon will start at 4:00pm of 24 Oct 2009 in SCTEX up to the Remy Field of SBMA.
21k, 10k, 5k, and 3k events will start at 5:00am the following day.
This definitely made me want more to pursue of my marathon dream, but I'm a bit confused where to experience it first: in Subic or in QC (on 18 Oct 2009)?
Running back-to-back weekend marathons is highly impossible to the newbie runner in me, and I have no recourse but to choose only one.
Subic is one spectacular place, offering breath-taking views and cooler climate. It's roads are definitely superb.
QC on the other hand is much nearer, and the marathon will pass through Commonwealth Avenue, UP-Diliman and La Mesa Eco Park which offers some adventure and eye-catching sights.
I'm crossing my fingers, and pray fervently that both events don't have qualifying times. =)
Whatyathink, buddy?

Greetings Mr. Jet Paiso!
WE are planning to join another marathon after Milo. Similar to you, WE haven't decided which one to sign up for.
If you want a well organized marathon but with a challenging route, WE suggest you register for Subic Int'l.
If you want a race close to home and has the potential to have international standards. Then, the QC marathon might be what you're looking for. Their 1st time might be a charm, who knows?
WE will follow your web logs to see what Marathon you will choose.
Run Strong and Prosper!
Hi Jet! It's nice to read another interesting Pinoy running blog like yours. Good luck on your marathon training, it'd be special whether you choose Subic or QC. Maybe, you should run a half marathon first, just to see how you could handle the longer distance.
Hi Jet. That is an interesting decision. I went through the same decision lately on a half marathon (U.S. Half vs. Silicon Valley Half) which I've done both. I decided to do the U.S. Half because Wilbert, Dennis and Per from the Philippines will be running here in SF. It came down to priorties.
The question for you will probably be whether there's a qualifying time. QC is one less week than Subic and is closer. That gives you one less week which is not an issue if you're in a training mode here. Anyway, good luck on the decision. I'll be behind you on whatever you decide.
to the collective, thank you for your insights. i'm not sure if your being extra-terrestrial does bring advancement to our society, for i haven't encountered one in the past, and have never imagined to encounter one in running either. =)
i made some discussions earlier with my running buddies, and have sort of made some plans already, though nothing is final yet.
will keep you posted, my friend of the 3rd kind. =)
hi bong, yep, it'll definitely be special. will run my first half mary in my first milo running event on 5 july 2009. =)
will run the half mary again on 19 july 2009 in run for home of globe and ayala land.
i'm treating both runs as part of the training plan from smartcoach in runnersworld.com, which i follow and i find it very effective.
keep in touch my friend. =)
thanks wayne! initial discussions were already made earlier with my running buddies after our long run, and we all agree that our firsts should always be special and memorable, though nothing is final yet.
to spice up things and further motivate us, we'll treat our first marathon as a special project to raise funds and help the rehabilitation of our brother in the community who got paralyzed. will keep you posted on this one as well.
take care my friend. 'til next time. =)
hey, Jet.
I got interested in your blog because we have the same plans: 21k Milo, 21k Run for Home & the QC Marathon, and using the Smartcoach as training program. Good luck on your training. Hope to meet you on Sunday.

We'll support you whatever path you choose to take Jet :) Subic In'tl may provide more eye candy and would make for a unique experience, something that you run into everyday. Cons - it's far and I'm guessing would cost more. QC Int'l - is much nearer, you could go home right away and rest if you catch a fever or something. Cons - you could go to Commonwealth and La Mesa Dam anytime :) Keep us posted man. Btw, added you to my blogroll :)
Cheers,
Luis
